Galactic Empires and Talking #SciFi

It's been a few weeks since I dedicated a whole post to science fiction, but I finally have the chance today.

First up is a boxset featuring eight full-length novels, including The Backworlds by fellow Untethered Realms member M. Pax. The best thing about this boxset? It's FREE! Grab it while you can.

Eight Novels of Deep Space Adventure

Eight full-length novels of adventure, war, intrigue and survival in the far reaches of space.

The Backworlds by M. Pax
A man struggles to survive in the harsh world of humanity's outer settlements and prove his father wrong.
Ambassador 1: Seeing Red by Patty Jansen
To look an alien superior in the eye is a deadly offense. To accuse him of a political murder…
Alien Hunters by Daniel Arenson
A scruffy alien pest controller faces an alien threat the likes of which the universe has never seen.
Hard Duty by Mark E. Cooper
Hostile aliens nearly eradicated humanity. Will the next encounter finish the job?
Bypass Gemini by Joseph Lallo

Sky Hunter by Chris Reher
Sent to a human outpost to investigate sabotage, a pilot finds more trouble than she bargained for.
The Galapagos Incident by Felix Savage
A genocidal AI attacks the solar system, and a Space Corps agent has one chance of saving a bunch of asteroid squatters she was sent to evict.
First Conquest by David VanDyke
To find a home and keep humanity safe from hostile aliens, Task Force Conquest must fight to seize a new star system.

Second up are two science fiction chats I try to take part in every week on Twitter. I don't always make it due to work and personal commitments, but they're both worth the effort when I can.

#SciFiHour is every Thursday, 9pm GMT, and run by @KatlaThorlaksd. It's an informal chat, where participants can talk anything science fiction-related, new or old. I enjoy the relaxed nature of this chat, and always find myself smiling throughout.

#SciFiChat is every Friday, 3-5pET, and run by David A. Rozansky (@scifichat). Of the two chats, this one is more formal. There is an hour of social chat and an hour dedicated to a specific topic. Throughout the topic hour, questions are posted to help guide the chat. While it's sometimes difficult to keep up with every thread, it is worth your time - I've had several story ideas come to me while taking part.

If you decide to take part in either of these chats, the most important thing to remember is to use the hashtag. If you don't, your tweets won't be seen by everyone taking part.

Finally, if you're a fan of science fiction and David Bowie, this article by Den of Geek is a must-read: Exploring David Bowie's Sci-Fi Fascination.

That's it for today. I hope you've found something of interest. If you have anything science fiction-related to share, please post it in the comments below.
